Pedestrian struck, killed crossing highway in Bear, Delaware identified

A woman was struck and killed early Monday in Bear, Delaware.

BEAR, Del. (WPVI) -- State police have identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a car in Bear, Delaware overnight.

71-year-old Leroy Core of Newark was struck before 1:00 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Pulaski Highway.

Police say Core was crossing the westbound lanes when he was hit by a 2010 Toyota Camry driven by 61-year-old Cheryl Crenshaw of Newark.

Core was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crenshaw stopped at the scene and was not hurt.

Police say neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the incident.

Police are continuing their investigation.

So far, no charges have been filed.

Earlier reports indicated the person struck was a woman. That turns out not to have been the case.
