FERN ROCK (WPVI) -- Two people are in custody after their vehicle rammed a vehicle with two police officers inside in Philadelphia's Fern Rock neighborhood.

The crash happened before 2 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 11th and Spencer streets.

It began when two officers were attempting to pull a car over on the 6000 block of Warnock Street.

As the officers approached, the car pulled away.

About a block away, two other officers responded to the scene after a report that the car pulled away.

Those officers were waiting in an unmarked vehicle at the traffic stop for direction. And that's when the suspects' vehicle slammed into their vehicle.

One person jumped out of the striking vehicle and ran, but was caught nearby.

Another was captured still in the car.

Both vehicles airbags deployed, and the vehicles sustained heavy front end damage.

The officers were checked at a nearby hospital. They were not seriously injured.

Police say the suspects' car had a large amount of narcotics inside the vehicle.
