Police: Man struck by vehicle in Summerdale road rage incident

SUMMERDALE (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating a road rage incident in the city's Summerdale section.

It happened before on the 4800 block of Summerdale and Roosevelt Boulevard.

Police say it was just before 7 p.m. Friday when 44-year-old Carlos Martinez of North Philadelphia was struck in an apparent road rage incident stemming from an argument.

Cell phone video taken by a witness may help police track down the woman who allegedly struck him with her SUV as she tried to flee the scene.

Chopper 6 HD was over Einstein Medical Center as the victim was being carried into the emergency room.

The victim's wife says it began when the woman driving a white SUV crossover began tailgating their car real close.

Delaine Colon of Juniata said, "She was just speeding, so she almost hit me and my daughters in the car, so we drove right next to her and we told her something, but she got out the car and started fighting. So my husband got out the car, he was trying to separate us."

Colon says her husband broke up the fight and told her to get back in the car with their two young daughters. She thought it was all over, but it was not.

"So while he separated us, he was walking. She came and hit him the car. She ran him over and she left."

Colon says her husband was incapacitated, suffering from serious injuries.

"There was blood everywhere, you can see it on the street, my clothes, on his cell phone and my daughters witnessed everything," she said.

Action News asked Colon, what was wrong with the lady?

Colon said, "She was on some type of drug, like she was on some drug."

Colon was then asked if she knew the lady. "I never met her in my whole life," she said.

Police are interviewing witnesses and looking at a cell phone video hoping to get a tag number on the vehicle.

The victim remains in serious condition.
