Route 42 North reopens after crashes in Gloucester Township, N.J.

GLOUCESTER TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- All lanes are back open on Route 42 North after a pair of crashes created a traffic nightmare Tuesday morning in Gloucester Township, N.J.

The trouble began overnight with a three-vehicle crash on Route 42.

It happened at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes near Exit 8 for Blackwood-Clementon Road.

Two people were hurt in the crash, one of them seriously.

Shortly before 4 a.m. authorities began forcing all northbound traffic off at Exit 7 for College Drive.

Things got worse just after 5 a.m. when a truck overturned on that exit ramp from Rt. 42 Northbound to College Drive, where traffic was being diverted.

The extent of injuries in that crash was not immediately clear.

The two crashes created a miles-long backup for hours approaching Exit 7.
