All lanes back open on I-95 South after truck jackknifes in Center City Philadelphia
CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- All lanes of I-95 South are back open after a tractor-trailer jackknifed in rainy conditions, forcing a major detour at the beginning of the Monday morning rush hour.
Traffic was moving again in all three southbound lanes by 8 a.m.
The crash happened before 4:30 a.m. Monday under the Ben Franklin Bridge overpass.
Police tell Action News the driver lost control in slippery conditions, causing the big rig to jackknife.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Police shut down all southbound lanes of I-95 as crews worked to clear the truck.
The incident also appears to have led to a fuel spill, complicating efforts to reopen the highway.
Southbound traffic was detoured off at the Vine Street Expressway (I-676) for more than two hours as the cleanup work continued.
One southbound lane finally reopened at 6:45 a.m. Two lanes were getting by at 7:15 a.m., with the third lane clear by 8 a.m.
A major traffic backup on I-95 South persisted for hours.
