PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The driver killed in a crash on the Schuylkill Expressway that snarled traffic for hours has been identified.

The victim is identified as Shawn Burton of Olney.

The crash happened at 5:15 a.m. Thursday between the Montgomery Drive and Girard Avenue exits.

State police say a car driven by Burton was traveling eastbound in the left lane when it entered the center lane colliding with a second vehicle.

The second vehicle was pushed onto the shoulder and up a grassy hill and came to a rest in the right lane.

Burton's car also went up the hill and overturned; it then rolled back down the hill to the right lane.

Burton was killed.

Police shut down all eastbound lanes of the expressway after the crash as firefighters, medics and, later, the medical examiner responded to the scene.

The entire eastbound side was closed for nearly an hour.

As of 8:30 a.m. two lanes were getting by, but delays continued on I-76 East and on several major roads leading to the Philadelphia artery.

All lanes of traffic were finally reopened by 10:20 a.m.
