Violent crash kills driver, shuts down City Avenue in Wynnefield

WYNNEFIELD (WPVI) -- Slippery conditions may have led to a deadly crash along City Avenue in Philadelphia's Wynnefield section early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at 4:30 a.m. near the intersection with 59th Street.

Authorities say the driver of the Cadillac somehow lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes, and hit three trees and a light pole.

The impact ejected the driver and split the car in half.

The male driver was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania but did not survive.

No one else was hurt.

City Avenue was shut down in both directions at the scene during the morning commute.
