PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Many people will be starting the long holiday weekend by hopping in the car and heading for some fun in the sun today.

It's expected to be a very busy Memorial Day weekend for traveling - in fact, some experts are predicting the busiest in a decade.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says 433,000 people from the Philadelphia area are expected to travel this holiday weekend. That's up more than 4.5% from last year.

And most of those drivers will be driving to their destinations.

Even though gas prices have been increasing recently, the national average is still a dollar cheaper than at this time last year.

AAA says these are likely the lowest Memorial Day gas prices in about five years, and that's expected to boost traffic as people from Delaware and Lehigh Valleys head out to celebrate the unofficial start of summer.
