VIDEO: Plane ticket prices can be drastically different
A new study shows you could be paying much more for a ticket than the person next to you on a plane.

A new study shows you could be paying much more for a ticket than the person next to you on a plane.

One seat could cost as much as eight times more than the one right next to it!

The travel deal site Hopper.com analyzed millions of domestic flights and found the shocking truth: that seats in the same class can go for drastically different prices.

They say the disparity changed depending on the airline. Fares varied by 5% on Spirit Airlines, 15% on Virgin America, and 18% on United.

One United flight to Las Vegas ranged anywhere from $200 to $1,600.

We reached out to the airlines in our report. Spirit responded saying that it is able to keep uniformly low prices because many of its passengers book in advance.

Airlines for America, a trade organization that represents a number of airlines, told ABC news in a statement: "Pricing within the same fight, much like pricing for a concert or sporting event, will vary based on when the ticket was purchased, where the seat is and what amenities are included."

We reached out to virgin airlines but have yet to hear back.
