Era of ABBA
The Era of ABBA concert is October 17-19 at the Kimmel Center.

Sunday, September 28, 2014 (WPVI) -- It's been 40 years since the Swedish group introduced their brand of pop to America, and after five Top 40 albums and 380 million records sold, the group remains one of the most successful acts of all time.

Philly Pops Music Director, Michael Krajewski says he wanted to put together a program that not only highlights some of ABBA's greatest hits, but features the likes of Elton John, John Denver and the Bee Gees.

"You're hearing this music that you're so familiar with performed by this fantastic orchestra so you're going to hear music that you know, but music that you don't normally associate with being played by an orchestra."

Krajewski says The Pops are enlisting the help of a 6-voice vocal group out of Finland to recreate the sounds from those 70's hits.

"They're called Rajaton and one of their specialties is singing the music of Abba, so we're going to get all of the biggest hits of Abba in this program as well Dancing Queen, Mama Mia and all those great songs,"

And with an era that brought us disco and dancing, Krajewski hopes the audience relives some of those heartwarming musical memories.

"I wanted to have this familiarity in all of the selections that we bring ... music that they hear on the radio, music that they hear when they go to the movies, music that they've heard if they've gone to a Broadway show, but music that's just been a part of their lives," says Krajewski who adds, "There were a lot of really joyful songs that came out of that era and the music of Abba really represents that in a big way."

The concert is October 17-19 at the Kimmel Center.
