ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- With wind gusts and driving rain, it was a raw day in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Friday as a coastal storm hit.

Residents are bracing for several days of stormy weather, even if Hurricane Joaquin misses our area.

"I just hope it's not another Sandy. We still didn't recover from the first one," said Jon Bryant.

"I'm a little worried about something like Sandy, but trying to not let it affect me," said Marc Benner.

Strong wind gusts and gray skies in Brigantine betrayed what otherwise could be a tropical scene, complete with palm trees and volleyball nets.

"It's nastiness. They should make everybody stay home," said Lena Thorton.

Up the street, surplus military vehicles the city acquired were parked outside the municipal building. They can be used for flood rescues.
