Summer vacation season 2015 is behind us now, but fall doesn't officially begin for two more weeks.

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Summer vacation season 2015 is behind us now, but fall doesn't officially begin for two more weeks.

"The first weeks of school tend to be a little warm for us historically," Philadelphia School District spokesperson Fernando Gallard said.

Especially when you consider that most public schools in the city do not have air-conditioning.

"We are asking the classrooms to open their windows, to put on fans, and to take it easy," Gallard said.

A number of Northeast High School students told Action News they didn't need any coaxing to take that advice.

"It felt like 100 degrees to be honest. It was very hot," freshman Nazir Zeka said.

"It was really hard to focus, you're sweating and trying to write stuff down, so it's really hard," senior Tabeel Sarfraz said.

Now, Northeast High School is among the few city schools that has A/C in some classrooms.

Still, these teenagers we spoke with say with this kind of heat, the difference was nominal.

"Some classes had air conditioning, but it was not really good, because there are so many kids in there. When you're in the hallway, everyone got really close together so it got really hot," freshman Tamara Edwards said.

The bad news is that the heat and humidity are expected again Wednesday.

The good news is it's going to cool off...eventually.

"We got through it today. We'll get it through it tomorrow. We're waiting for winter," student Alisha Perez said.
