OCEAN CITY, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Business owners, residents and tourists are getting ready for another summer at the Jersey shore!

Meryl Vangelov's family business is the candy business. Striped, stretched and wrapped at 500 candies a minute, the hand-fed machines at Shrivers Salt Water Taffy and Fudge are working in double time as Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching.

"We have brought production up at least 70 percent," said Vangelov.

For Gillian's Wonderland Pier, this weekend means the official kickoff of the busy season. Ocean City's Mayor, Jay Gillian is the owner.

"My grandfather started back in 1929 and it's a great town," he said.

A town ready for the crowds that warm weather brings with it, City Workers are in overdrive. Busy cleaning out the trash, raking the beaches, getting shells, wood and debris. Cleaning out the gutters.

Thanks to the bright blue skies, the Atlantic Ocean gently lapping onto the shore, the fun has already begun for beachgoers.

"We get to build sand castles." five-year-old Anna had a blast in the sand.

After a consistently rainy spring, It seems the veil is finally lifting on a bright future for shop owners.

John Viehweger owns the Polish Ices shop on Boardwalk and 9th street,

"There's been a ton of rain it's been cold, windy and rainy down here. We're just hoping for a turnaround," he said. "I think everybody's on the same guidelines and feels the same way."
