PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Sunday morning started out covered in ice for much of the region.

Workers chipped away at sidewalks along Ridge Avenue in Roxborough, as plows sheared ice from major roadways.

On Kelly Drive, Joe Leitner got caught driving on the slick roads but fortunately was not injured.

"It really didn't seem all that bad for most of it but I guess I just hydroplaned," said Leitner.

"It's ridiculous - too much ice. I wasn't expecting to come outside with this much ice," said Kadiedra Crawford.

In North Philadelphia, getting out the door required more than a scraper.

Some residents had to use garden equipment to break the ice before shoveling.

Officials say a minivan and pickup truck collided around 7:00 a.m. on Lancaster Pike near Hercules Road in Greenville, Delaware.

Three people were injured and transported by medics to Christiana Hospital.

Also in Delaware, the Action Cam spotted a caravan of plow trucks trying to clear I-95 in Newport earlier in the morning.

But before they could make it to one location, a car went off the road and got stuck in a snowbank. No injuries were reported.

By mid-day Sunday, the sun made an appearance and temperatures rose, melting the ice.

Many people worked against the clock to clear their sidewalks and driveways because they didn't want to wait until the temperatures began to drop again.

"We just came from my dad's house in Merion, we're trying to do the family thing and help everybody out," said John Brogan.

Brogran went house-to-house from Merion to Narberth.

"Very icy, very slippery and very heavy so the lower back will be paying the price later today," said Brogran.

Puddles and dirty slush pushed up against sidewalks replaced the snow covered roads.

That's the exactly the type of mixture Emily Stewart needed to create snow sculptures.

"Snow sculptors like it when you can pack it together and get some details - it just sticks it's more like clay," she said.

The weather did cause some delays on area mass transit.
