NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Snow began falling in the early Thursday morning hours, dropping up to an inch at the service plaza along I-95 in Newark, Delaware.
By Daybreak conditions had worsened. Heavy snow and strong winds made for slow travel along Ogletown-Stanton Road in Newark.
With schools and many offices closed, one couple took advantage of the snow day to hit the diner.
"We just want to grab a brunch. It's really cold and we don't get a chance to get brunch on Thursday," said Ray Zhang of Newark.
In Hockessin, the slick roads are likely to blame for this one vehicle accident.
An SUV took out a utility pole at Limestone and Brackenville Roads.
Meanwhile in Newark, a truck got jammed under the Chapel Street railroad bridge causing traffic tie-ups.
The whipping wind is the big story, blowing snow back onto roads after plows had cleared them. But drivers say roads are manageable.
Richard Ross of Camden, Delaware said, "If people take their time and don't try to do all this and that stuff they'll go no problem at all."
DART buses ran on a delayed service but some chose to brave the bitter cold on foot.
One commuter said, "I kind of enjoy it. I get the school day off."
