Pennsylvania eyes icy roadways as snow melts, then freezes

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Gov. Tom Wolf's administration is turning its attention to what could become a thaw-and-freeze cycle that creates icy roadways a couple days after a major snowstorm left much of Pennsylvania digging out.

Wolf and other officials said Monday that the state highway department is working to clear and salt roadways.

The state is also offering help to cities that are struggling to handle the snow.

The snowfall shut down the Capitol complex in Harrisburg and many school districts and crippled a stretch of the turnpike. Wolf administration officials say there were no major accidents on highways managed by the state Department of Transportation.

Motorists are advised to be cautious because of slick spots, especially on exit ramps. Commuters who ride buses can expect delays along snow-covered streets.
