Some schools dismiss students early due to no heat
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Several schools in our region were dismissed early Tuesday due to a lack of heat.
Locke Elementary School in West Philadelphia was one of those schools, where students were sent home at noon.
A parent who had just picked up her children tells us, "It's not warm like it usually is. You can feel the difference."
Over in North Philadelphia, two high schools that occupy the same building were dismissed for the same reason. The Philadelphia School District released students from
Building 21 and the U School due to lack of sufficient heat in the school building.
And a broken heater forced school officials to close Truman High School in Bristol, Bucks County. Students were already at school, and were dismissed early when the necessary repairs took longer than expected. Only a portion of the building is affected, but officials say it impacted enough rooms to warrant the early closing.
Across the Delaware Valley it's another day for dangerously low temperatures.
At St. Joes University, students felt the arctic punch going to class. And we found a lone jogger on the normally busy track on campus training for a big race, saying he had no choice but to run.
In Media, Delaware County the wind gusts whipped flags in the air, and in Chester County even standing outside for a minute to pump gas proved to be torture.
But we did find some who are actually excited to get the real feel of winter.
Joe Reis of Pedricktown, New Jersey tells us, "The weather doesn't faze me. I like the cold... I like the change of season. And when I'm cold enough, I like it when spring comes, then when summer comes. And then, I like it to be cold again."
