PennDOT officials in Allentown say all things considered Monday morning?s commute went quite well.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- PennDOT officials in Allentown say all things considered Monday morning's commute went quite well.

Officials were still concerned about re-freezing Monday night.

Agency spokesman Ron Young told Action News says it's always tricky when you have precipitation along with temperatures hovering near the freezing point.

Clearly, commuters AND pedestrians had to deal with ice here and there.

But the real issues in Pennsylvania developed north of Route 80, in areas including Wilkes-Barre.

Icy conditions there led to several accidents.

Now, though, PennDOT's focus is on the conditions expected Monday night.

"Tonight we are concerned about the re-freezing," said Young. "We'll keep all of our trucks out there throughout the evening tonight and into tomorrow morning if necessary to continue to treat the roads with salt and anti-skid material."

PennDOT also want motorists to know that this is Winter Driving Awareness Week.

Recommended tips including making sure drivers have safety kits inside their vehicles, and ensuring the air pressure and tread depth are correct on their tires.
