Wintry mix makes for a messy commute on Friday

HAMMONTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- South Jersey got a few inches of snow Friday morning. The roads were a slushy mess as people went to work and the kids went to school.

Overnight we saw rain and then around 4 a.m. we saw it change over to snow. It wasn't so much the accumulation that was causing problems, but it was the timing - right during the morning rush.

Vernon Burkett tells us, "I was hoping we were done with all this but I guess not."

Nope, not done yet. The snow was falling in Hammonton, and around town folks were out clearing up so they could get out.

Along North 2nd Avenue and over on Woodlawn, some families just needed enough snow gone to get out of the driveway and off to school.

The White Horse Pike was passable, mainly just slop and slush. But it was a sharp change of pace from the mild temperatures that we just had and maybe got a little too used to.

Early this morning, what started as rain turned into snow. First it stuck to the shrubs and grassy areas and eventually the roads and sidewalks. Even if you could drive in it, that didn't mean you wanted to.

Jim Penza says, "I'm going to stay in the house near the fireplace all day."

The snow was wet and heavy, and it was timed smack in the middle of rush hour, but you make the best of it.

So, in the end the snow was more of a nuisance than anything. But people are preparing themselves for the possibility of more snow next week.
