CHERRY HILL, N.J. (WPVI) -- A multi-alarm fire injured one person and caused residents to flee their Cherry Hill apartment complex late Monday night.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. at the Colonials Apartment West on the 800 block of Cooper Landing Road.

The fire broke out on the fifth floor of the sixth floor building.

The Cherry Hill Fire Department and mutual aid companies responded to the scene.

Police and fire crews immediately began knocking on doors telling residents to evacuate.

The fire was placed under control around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

One person was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. No firefighters were injured.

Several apartments were damaged in the fire.

But officials did allow residents back into apartments that did not suffer any damage.

A cause of the fire is under investigation.
