Police: 2 men arrested for drug distribution in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police have arrested two males for drug distribution in Toms River, New Jersey.

On September 30th, the Special Enforcement Team of the Toms River police received a tip about drug activity at a business.

A surveillance was establish to monitor activity at 452 Route 37 East, Certified Funding.

Police say during the surveillance, officers observed 23-year-old Ansel Applewhite leave the business and conduct what was believed to be a narcotics transaction.

When officers approached Applewhite, they found him in possession of heroin and alprazolam pills and more than $2,000 in cash.

Further investigation by police led them to 20-year-old Eugene Ayala, Jr., an associate of Applewhite, who was left behind at the business.

Police say Ayala was found in possession of a .38 caliber handgun and heroin.

Applewhite was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin over one half ounce with the intent to distribute and possession of alprazolam.

His bail was set at $150,000.00, no ten percent.

Ayala was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and possession of firearm while committing a drug offense.

His bail was set at $100,000, no ten percent.
