Protesters call for affordable internet outside Comcast headquarters

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- A number of protesters made their voices heard outside the Comcast headquarters in Center City Thursday morning.

They say they're unhappy that Comcast and the city of Philadelphia are proposing to renew their contract.

A hearing will be held next week for a new 15 year deal.

Among other things, the protesters want Comcast to commit to making internet affordable for everyone.

They say, as it stands now, deal is a "turkey" for schools and workers and even hand delivered a fully cooked bird to get their point across.

"They create so many barriers that keep the poor man from getting the resources that we need.," said one protester.

Comcast didn't release a written statement in response to these allegations but sent us a number of statistics.

They say they employ 8,000 people in Philadelphia and connect 70,000 low-income residents to the internet.
