Police say a man in his 40s was assaulted following a home invasion in the Tioga-Nicetown section of Philadelphia.

TIOGA-NICETOWN (WPVI) -- Police say a man was assaulted following a home invasion in the Tioga-Nicetown section of Philadelphia.

The incident happened around 5:45 a.m. Thursday on the 1600 block of West Butler Street.

According to a family member of the victim, he thinks the victim was targeted and followed home from his job as a deliveryman.

According to detectives, two men wearing masks, at least one armed, forced their way into a home.

The resident and his girlfriend, both in their 40s, fought the attackers.

The armed gunman pistol whipped the 45-year-old male victim multiple times and dislocated his shoulder.

Both assailants ran taking the victims X-Box video game system, but dropped it in the street; police later recovered it.

Detectives think the motive was robbery.

The victim received stitches at Temple University Hospital and is expected to be okay.

His family members say he put up a fight and that may have saved his life.

Police are searching for the suspect.
