Police are investigating after a badly decomposed body was discovered in Southwest Philadelphia.

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating after a badly decomposed body was discovered in Southwest Philadelphia.

The discovery was made by witnesses around 12:34 p.m. Saturday in some woods at Bartram's Garden at 5400 Bartram Drive.

The body was found on the bank of the Schuylkill River, police said, approximately 45 feet from the water line.

Police describe the victim as a black female in a state of decomposition with no signs of trauma.

She was found topless in blue pants and brown socks.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
