Crime Fighters: $1,000 reward offered in murder of Johnathan Simmons

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying two men wanted in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old man.

On Aug. 28, Johnathan Simmons was at the Northgate One Apartments in Camden.

Police said just before 11:30 p.m., 911 calls came in that a shot was fired.

"A lot of people were saying that it just happened so fast like the only thing that they heard was one gunshot, and then after that they saw him running and they saw him fall," said girlfriend Dana Lorenzo.

Johnathan Simmons was taken to the hospital where he died.

Two men were captured on surveillance cameras as they went through a DRPA tunnel beneath the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Johnathan Simmons' sister and girlfriend describe him as fun guy with a tough side.

"He was my brother. He was funny. He was hard headed," said sister Jaida Simmons. "He was my everything."

"He was very stubborn. He was very overprotective," said Dana Lorenzo.

But both women were honest about Simmons' life.

"He was involved in a lot of things that he shouldn't have been involved in," said Jaida Simmons.

The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible.

"We believe someone out there seen something," said Det. Frank Simpson with the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
