CB West QB remembered by hundreds at vigil
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- A teenage student in Doylestown, Bucks County was remembered by his classmates and loved ones on Monday.
14-year-old Steven Kim was killed over the weekend when he was struck and killed while skateboarding.
Kim was the quarterback and team captain of the Central Bucks West freshman football team.
The community came together on Monday to remember the young man who at such a young age had made quite an impact.
Hundreds of students and faculty from Central Bucks West High School and Lenape Middle School gathered at War Memorial Field in Doylestown to honor the memory of the freshman football star.
Steven Kim's sister, Natalie, says to know her little brother, was to love him.
As she wept, Natalie told those in attendance, "He was a great person - possibly the best person I've met in my entire life. And I hope I can live now and be more like he was, because I think he was the best of all of us."
The 14-year-old died late Saturday night. He was riding his skateboard across the intersection of S. Easton Road and Turk Road when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.
Those closest to Steven are having a hard time believing that he is gone.
His friend Owen Vrancken says, "I wanted it to be fake, but later in the night I figured it out, I break down, and it was hard on me. And it's going to hard to be happy for a while."
Kim, a ninth grader at Lenape Middle School, was the quarterback and captain of the Central Bucks West freshman football team. And so, in his honor, the entire team walked out with Steven's family in a show of support before the vigil.
People say the outgoing teenager will be remembered by many as a great athlete. But he'll be remembered by everyone as a great student, classmate, and friend.
Ava Mills, another of Steven's friends, tells us, "I just want everyone to remember how strong he was and how great of a kid he was, and how much everyone loved him and how much he impacted everyone's lives. And I just wish he could have seen how much he meant to everyone."
It's believed Steven couldn't slow down his skateboard before entering the intersection.
The driver did stop at the scene. Authorities say while toxicology and autopsy results are still pending, it's believed the incident was just a tragic accident, and no charges are expected.
