ABINGTON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police in Montgomery County are investigating a shooting that left a 73-year-old man dead in Abington.

It happened shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday on the 1700 block of Prospect Avenue.

Jacqueline Duncan tells Action News her father, Richard Duncan, was shot and killed on his porch.

"I'm heartbroken, truly heartbroken," said Jacqueline Duncan.

The gunman sped off in a van but, blocks away, police were able to corner him in another neighborhood.

"They were like 'get on the ground, put the gun down, put the gun down!' " said witness Wesley Durant.

"The individual fired two shots in the car to himself. Police were able to get him out the car after that and he was rushed to Abington Memorial Hospital," said First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele.

The suspect is listed in critical condition.

Police Brass say officers never fired at the suspect, despite residents' claims they heard multiple gunshots.

Right now there's no clear motive, police say.

Family members tell Action News Richard Duncan knew the man who police say shot him, but can't understand why he would do something like that.

"He was a loving father, he helped raise me," said Jacqueline Duncan. "He did a lot in the community, and it's just so tragic. This loss (at) Christmas time."

Police say they recovered two handguns from the suspect's car.

The suspect is in police custody and charges are pending, police say.
