PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Mayor Michael Nutter said a farewell of sorts to Philadelphia on Thursday.

He took the podium at City Hall for his final scheduled news conference as mayor, before he hands the reigns over to Jim Kenney on Monday.

Nutter reflected on his eight-year tenure, and said in the end, it comes down to the facts.

"The fact is, Philadelphia is safer today than it was the day before I came into office. The fact is that there is more educational funding support for schools than there has been at any other time," Nutter said.

As for the future, Mayor Nutter said his plans include taking a break, but staying in Philadelphia.

He's also staying involved with the Democratic National Convention.
