Fmr. Delaware County employee sentenced for stealing $715,000

MEDIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- A former employee in the Delaware County District Attorney's Office has been sentenced to three to six years in state prison.

Prosecutors said Mary Lynch who worked as a financial administrator stole approximately $715,000 in drug forfeiture money for personal use.

Lynch was also sentenced to 10 years probation and has been ordered to pay full restitution.

"This is a case of betrayal," Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan said in April 2015.

The D.A.'s office said Lynch spent the stolen money on tickets to Bob Dylan and Taylor Swift concerts along with tickets to sporting events.

"She sat in the front row of the Flyers game and those Flyers tickets were purchased on Stubhub. On Stubhub, I believe the purchase price of those Flyers tickets each was $600," Whelan said.

Investigators learned of the alleged thefts after launching an investigation into possible stolen evidence at the Upper Darby Police Department.

Lynch was fired from her longtime position when the allegations surfaced.
