PHOTOS: History-making Chestnut Hill home now $1.5 million

CHESTNUT HILL (WPVI) -- The price has dropped for a Philadelphia home called one of the "10 Buildings that Changed America" by PBS, and is considered to be the first post-modern residence in the country.[br /][br /]It's known as the Vanna Venturi House, located at 8330 Millman Street in Chestnut Hill. Kurfiss Sotheby's International Realty announced this week that the asking price for the property dropped to $1.5 million.[br /][br /][photo ID="1271011" /][br /][br /]"Serious buyers have looked at the house, but it's a house that needs to be lived in, and for that reason, my client and I believe that the buyer will be from the greater Philadelphia area or perhaps the tri-state area," listing agent Melanie Stecura of Kurfiss Sotheby's International Realty said in a statement.[br /][br /]"We are adjusting the price to be more in line with other area homes on the market."[br /][Ads /][br /][b]RELATED: [url HREF="[br /]http://www.kurfiss.com/philadelphia/chestnut-hill-homes-for-sale/8330-millman-street-6610258" TARGET="blank" REL="nofollow"]Listing on Kurfiss.com[/url][/b][br /][br /]The house's name comes from the original resident, who was also the mother of its architect, Robert Venturi.[br /][br /][photo ID="1271000" /][br /][br /]In a [b][url HREF="http://www.pbs.org/program/ten-that-changed-america/10-buildings-changed-america/" TARGET="blank" REL="nofollow"]2013 interview for the PBS special[/url][/b], Venturi said he wanted to thumb his nose at the modernist establishment, with its rigid rules and bland architecture.[br /][br /]He designed and redesigned the house over the course of four years. When the host of the show remarked it looked like a house a child would draw, Venturi took it as a compliment.[br /][br /]"I think that's a nice thing to say, an appropriate thing to say. I wanted it to be a kind of fundamentally symbolic, generic house," he said.[br /][br /]This is the first time the house has been offered for sale in 43 years, according to the Kurfiss.com listing.
