PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- With a new program called West Philly Zoo Scholars, high school sophomores get to hit the books in a different kind of classroom.
Designed to introduce young people to the zoology and conservation fields, they are learning from professionals here firsthand.
Twenty-two students from six schools are beginning what is planned to be a seven-year journey.
Classroom instruction is combined with fieldwork, covering topics they will need if they choose this career path.
The program could be ushering in future wildlife professionals, those who are showing an interest now.
