At the age of 89, Carl Scheib was honored Monday as the youngest player in history of the American League.

GRATZ, Pa. (WPVI) -- At the age of 89, Carl Scheib was honored Monday as the youngest player in the history of Major League Basbeall's American League.

Scheib grew up in the Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

In 1943, at the age of 16, he made his major league debut with the Philadelphia Athletics.

Scheib lives in Texas, but returned home to the town of Gratz for a presentation of his recently released biography titled "Wonder Boy."

Schieb played alongside greats like Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.

The ball field where Scheib grew up playing was named after him back in 2005.
