A 5-year-old boy from Lansdowne, Delaware County died after he was struck by lightning Sunday on the beach in Carova, North Carolina.

CAROVA, N.C. (WPVI) -- A 5-year-old boy from Lansdowne, Delaware County died after he was struck by lightning Sunday on the beach in Carova, North Carolina.

Stephen Little was on vacation with his family in the Outer Banks.

The family was trying to get out of the storm and into their SUV when the boy was stuck while standing next to the vehicle.

Emergency crews responded to the call just after 4:10 p.m.

Authorities said the family put the child in their SUV after he was struck and met EMS partway.

He was then taken to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital by ambulance where he died.
