Clowns trying to lure kids in North Carolina, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police in Winston-Salem, North Carolina say a person in a clown costume tried to lure kids into the woods Sunday night.

It happened on East 29th Street off Highway 52 around 8:30 p.m., WGHP reports.

Police say the suspect tried to lure the kids with treats and was seen by two children. The person was heard, but not seen, by one adult and fled when officers arrived.

The suspect was said to be wearing white overalls, white gloves, red shoes, red bushy hair, with a white face and a red nose.

There was another sighting of a clown on Hope Lane, about two miles from the first sighting. Officers couldn't find a suspect.

Similar incidents have happened recently in South Carolina.
