Phillies opening game day brings lots of excited fans. Gray Hall reports during Action News at 6 p.m. on April 7.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It was opening day at Citizens Bank Park and the fans were overjoyed.

Robin Vanfossen of Prince Frederick Maryland says, "Just the crack of the bat and seeing the green grass and watching on the big screen instead of at home."

It's finally here, and baseball fans are more than excited about the Phillies 2017 Home Opener against the Nationals.

Deborah McCormick of Barrington, New Jersey said, "It is excitement, it is the atmosphere of baseball, springtime, and hopefully the World Series.

Kim Sparks of Westville, New Jersey added, "Euphoria. Baseball is the meaning of life to me."

"It is unbelievable. You get goose bumps all over. We came down here last year and we've always wanted to come to one, and is like I will never ever miss another opening day, never," said Bob Fullenlove of Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

It doesn't take long to realize that these are die-hard fans rooting for their team.

The game kicked off at 3:05 p.m. Friday.

The weather wasn't the most inviting, but for thousands who showed up, with an undeniable love for the Phillies, a little cloudy, chilly weather didn't even come close to putting a damper on the excitement.

Dennis Mullin of Exton, Pennsylvania said, "This is our first time. It is the first time for all three of us. I am pretty excited, they are excited, plus, they missed school, so who wouldn't be excited about coming to opening day, right."

Robin Vanfossen of Prince Frederick, Maryland said, "I made arrangements, waited for these tickets a long time ago and couldn't wait until they went on sale. We just like to come and watch the game, it's so much fun and there is so much going on. "

We are still in the early stages of the season, but fans are already predicting the Phillies will knock it out of the park.

Emmy Vanfossen of Prince Frederick, Maryland said, "I love seeing all the fans at the stadium come and support each other. It is the city of brotherly love, you have to have fun."

Art Ehlo of Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania said, "The Phillies are the best. I am the number two Phillies fan."

Ehlo was asked, who is number two? "Everybody else and I tell you what, I'd try harder."
