2 teenagers shot in Wilmington
WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- Two 14-year-old boys are in the hospital after being shot in Wilmington.
The shooting happened around 11:45 p.m. Saturday at 30th and Market streets.
Police said one of the victims was shot in his left foot, the other in his right shin.
Both were treated on scene by New Castle County paramedics then were taken by ambulance to A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital where they are both listed in stable condition.
Police are sorting out who fired the shots and what led up to that violence.
Witnesses report a sweet 16 birthday part was being near the location of the gunshots. Once the birthday party ended and guests were leaving the venue, a fight erupted in the area of 31st and N. Market Streets.
During the ongoing physical altercation, an unknown black male subject began firing numerous gunshots into the crowd, according to police.
Police said the suspect fled on foot, out of sight.
More than 150 people have been shot this year in Wilmington which is the highest number in several years.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently called Wilmington's gun violence an "epidemic."
The city has a new police chief who is trying to reduce violence in the city.
