PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- One of the newest residential towers in Center City was officially unveiled on Tuesday.

The 26-story building at 500 Walnut, pitched as the pinnacle of luxury living, overlooks Independence Mall. The builder says the penthouse sold for a record-breaking price here in Philadelphia.

Everything is top of the line and state of the art.

Built by the Scannapieco Development Corporation, the luxurious residential building is home to just 35 residences - no more than two per floor - with grand balconies.

The bi-level 8,900 square foot, two-story penthouse sold for close to $18 million, a record price in the city.

The purchasers are buying essentially raw space, and none of those with completed units allowed our cameras in.

But, we did get a glimpse of the uncommon common spaces: The game room, a guest room, and a skylit pool.

There's even robotic parking.

The condos are listed at some of the top prices in the entire city and many buyers are said to be coming in from the suburbs - a chance to live in luxury, in the city, with state-of-the-art style.

The small footprint proved a challenge so the architect created an angular design. In fact, it's hidden from view when visitors at the Liberty Bell look back toward Independence Hall.
