NORTH WILMINGTON, Delaware (WPVI) -- A wolf-like dog caused quite the stir in North Wilmington Wednesday morning.

Animal control officers were called out around 9 a.m. to the unit block of Sorrel Drive for a report of a gray wolf or a coyote on the loose.

The officers, along with New Castle County Police, tracked the animal for several hours, trying to capture it using treats.

Police eventually pulled out of the search after talking to the owner, who claims the canine is actually a German shepherd mix and not a wolf.

The wolf-like dog was returned home just before 1:30 p.m..

The Department of Agriculture is now handling the case.
