Dorney Park owner challenges worker safety violations

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The owner of a Pennsylvania amusement park is challenging a federal regulator's findings that it failed to protect summertime workers from extreme heat, including a teenager who was burned after collapsing near a deep fryer.

The Easton Express-Times reports Cedar Fair Entertainment wants an independent federal commission to review citations issued last month on Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed a $7,000 fine over failure to protect outdoor and concession stand workers from sunlight and other heat sources.

Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair said in a statement Wednesday that all seasonal employees are required to undergo training in how to prevent heat illness and recognize when they need a shaded break and water.

The company operates parks in nine states and Canada.
