March begins with snowy scene around Philly area
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The snow started falling overnight. While the accumulations were nothing major, it was the storm's timing that made the morning rush a bit tricky.
The worst of the storm was behind Roxborough by the time the sun came up. The clearing effort - shovels and scrapers - was well underway at Roxborough High School and along Ridge Avenue.
The storm started early Friday morning, making some roads hard to travel.
Flakes began falling in Manayunk around 3 a.m., lightly at first and then quick accumulation.
Salt trucks were out making the rounds, and some main roads like Main Street improved.
We caught up with Lauren Mateja while brushing off her car to talk about the side streets, including hers.
"Hasn't been treated because of simply how narrow the streets are in Manayunk, but the main streets seem to be OK. The side streets are a little bit slippery," Mateja said.
As the morning went on, the streets got better.
Cars zipped along Lancaster Avenue in Wayne.
In a neighborhood nearby, Mike Merin brought out the machinery to clear his driveway and the sidewalks by his house and his neighbors'.
"When it gets closer to three inches, that's when I bring out the snow blower," Mike Merin of Wayne said.
This storm required some cleanup, but there are those that didn't mind and were not surprised at a little snow to start March.
"Mother Nature always has to throw us a curveball," Connie Enochs of Wayne said.
There were a lot of delayed school openings in the area and you better believe the kids didn't mind having a short day to get the weekend going.
