ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old girl in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's office says it happened early Thursday morning.

Police responding to a call to the top floor apartment of 102 Massachusetts Avenue found the teen had been shot and killed.

The landlord, Zakir Hossain, says Thursday was the set eviction day for a middle aged woman who was the only registered tenant. He added that he never saw a teen girl staying there.

"I'm feeling so, so bad. It's never happened in this area. I've been here twenty years," said Hossain.

Inside the apartment was blood spatter, personal items left behind, pieces of the wall had been punched out and torn down.

The maintenance manager, Robert Milkewicz, says screams woke him up this morning.

"They were screaming, I knew something bad happened... I heard them say 'Call the police, call the police,'" Milkewicz said.

The prosecutor's office has not released the identity of the victim or motive behind the killing, and has not announced any arrests.
