PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Bad news and good news for Sixers center Joel Embiid.
On Saturday the team revealed that a scan on Embiid's right foot reveals less healing than anticipated.
But on Sunday, a source told Action News that Embiid will not require a surgery.
The stress fracture he suffered is what kept him out all last season.
For now Embiid has been shut down in a cautious effort to help heal his foot.
In a statement on Saturday night, President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Sam Hinkie said, "Our priority remains providing Joel with every opportunity to ensure he has a long and successful NBA career, and as such, these findings cause us to pause and reassess his current activities."
The Sixers and Embiid's doctors don't have a timetable for when he will resume on-court activities.
This setback could put his summer league debut in jeopardy.
