ST. CHARLES, Ill. (WPVI) -- Authorities are searching for a 19-year-old man who escaped from a west suburban St. Charles juvenile detention facility in Illinois on Monday.

Denzell Walker left the Illinois Youth Center at 10 p.m. Monday, according to a statement by Mike Theodore, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice.

Walker, who was wearing a blue jumpsuit, has black hair and brown eyes and is 5-foot-11 and 140-pounds, the statement said.

The facility is a medium-security center at 3825 Campton Hills Road.

"While the details of the escape are still under investigation, the Department is working closely with local law enforcement to conduct an extensive search of the area," Theodore said.

A bloodhound was called to the facility at 1:45 a.m. to track Walker, a Kane County sheriff's office lieutenant said. DuPage County is also assisting in the search.

Walker was taken into custody June 4 for allegedly violating his parole for pending burglary charges. The statement warned the public to exercise caution. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
