Trial starts for man charged in crash that killed Neumann Univ. student

MEDIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- The trial is underway for the man accused of striking and killing a Neumann University student in January 2014.

Opening statements were heard Tuesday morning at the Delaware County Courthouse in Media.

Police say Jonathan Vanderhorst was high on pot and prescription pills when he crashed into another car along the 500 block of Baltimore Pike in Clifton Heights.

The wreckage plowed up on the sidewalk, killing 18 -year-old Dante DeSimone.

His friend Tim Robison suffered critical injuries.

Vanderhorst was arrested in February 2014.

DeSimone was a freshman at Neumann University and home on winter break at the time of the incident.
