Police say a pickup truck that flew past a patrol car going an estimated 100 m.p.h. slammed into gas pumps on Route 130 in Brooklawn.

BROOKLAWN, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police say a pickup truck that flew past a patrol car going an estimated 100 m.p.h. slammed into gas pumps on Route 130 in Brooklawn, touching off a fire and leaving the driver critically injured.

It started at 2:30 a.m. Sunday when authorities say a Collingswood, N.J. police officer spotted the white pickup truck speeding down Route 130.

Police say the truck was going so fast the officer lost sight of it as he pulled out to follow.

A short time later the officer found the truck. It had crashed at the Speedway gas station near the Brooklawn Circle in Brooklawn.

Police say it appears the driver went through the traffic circle, lost control and struck one of the gas pumps, knocking it over a touching off a small fire.

Arriving officers hit an emergency fuel stop switch and used fire extinguishers to control the flames.

Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the remaining fire.

Medics took the driver to Cooper University Hospital in critical condition.

Police were working to determine what led up to the incident.

So far, no charges have been filed.
