A driver escaped serious injury when his tractor-trailer burst into flames on a busy highway in Camden County.

BELLMAWR, N.J. (WPVI) -- A ramp connecting two major highways in South Jersey was shut down after a tractor-trailer burst into flames Tuesday morning.

It happened at 8:30 a.m. on the ramp from Route 42 North to Interstate 295 North in Bellmawr.

Dramatic video from Chopper 6 HD showed the front part of a Hyundai tractor-trailer engulfed in flames.

Thick black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around.

Action News is told the driver was able to get out of the cab in time to escape serious injury.

He was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for treatment.

A tractor-trailer fire is blocking traffic on the ramp from Route 42 North to Interstate 295 North in Camden County.

The entire ramp from northbound Route 42 leading to northbound I-295 was blocked Tuesday morning, causing large traffic backups on both 42 North and I-295 North.
