It happened just after 3 a.m. Saturday morning on the 3100 block of North Broad Street, between West Allegheny Avenue and West Clearfield Street.
Police say the 34-year-old driver, identified as Harold Obdule Jones, was traveling south on Broad Street at a high rate of speed when he lost control, crashing into a parked vehicle. The vehicle then continued over the curb and crashed into a street sign and light pole. The vehicle finally came to a rest after flipping and striking a tree.
Jones was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and medics pronounced him at the scene.
There were no other reports of injuries. This is an active investigation with the Crash Investigation Division.
