Parkway 100: Parkway History

PARKWAY HISTORY
The Benjamin Franklin Parkway was inspired by the Champs-Elysees in Paris, and the whole idea was to connect city residents to what was then the new Fairmount Park by bringing the park into the city and the city into the park. Jeannette Reyes takes a look at the history of this grand boulevard.

Parkway 100: What Could've Been

WHAT COULD'VE BEEN
The Benjamin Franklin Parkway is one of Philadelphia's most iconic spaces. Melissa Magee caught up with a longtime Philadelphia Tour Guide who painted a picture of what the Parkway WOULD'VE looked like if the original plans had gone according to plan.

MORE PARK, LESS WAY
While the institutions make the Parkway the city's museum row, the parks, fountains and outdoor art create a sort of outdoor museum that is a huge part of the Parkway's charm. Jeannette Reyes takes us on a walk through the gardens that help bring the boulevard to life.
