The campus police officer was headed out to his normal post on Kresson Road outside of Cherry Hill High School East to direct traffic before school when police say a white sedan collided with the officer.

Senior John Dirico pulled up just after the impact and was shocked at what he saw.
"My friends were all getting out of their car and I didn't know what happened," said Dirico. "I saw the officer in the street and he was all bloody."
The car could be seen with a shattered windshield.
The officer was rushed to Cooper University Hospital with significant injuries, but officials say they're believed to be non life-threatening.
Cherry Hill Police Chief Robert Kempf says the officer's name isn't being released, but says he's well-known in the law enforcement community.
"The officer is a long-time veteran of the police department and recently transitioned into the campus police role. But he is a veteran law enforcement officer," said Kempf.

Police say the driver did stop and is cooperating.
The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
Still, the chief says it's a reminder to be careful, especially near schools.
"It's a good opportunity to take the time to reflect and to encourage everyone to be mindful in our school zones of pedestrian traffic and just to slow down and take those extra precautions," said Kempf.
The school sent a note to families on Friday, letting them know that additional resources would be available at school today for any students or staff who witnessed the incident and may want to talk to a counselor.
Police said the driver of the involved vehicle immediately stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
