LOWER CHICHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- A suspect is dead after a shooting outside a district court building in Delaware County.

The shooting happened outside the building in the 500 block of Ridge Road in the Linwood section of Lower Chichester Township around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Darren Williams of Chester, Pa.

Authorities say Williams was pulled over by police on Thursday night. Police say he appeared to be under the influence and failed a field sobriety test.

He became combative with officers and had to be tased. He was then taken into custody.

On Friday morning, Williams was arraigned at the district court office. After his arraignment, officials say Williams pushed past two officers and tried to run away.

There was a struggle with officers and Williams got his hands on a gun. During the struggle, police say Williams shot himself. He was also shot by one of the officers.

District Attorney Kat Copeland said it does not appear Williams' self-inflicted gunshot wound was intentional.

Copeland said investigators are talking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance video as the investigation continues.

Family members of Darren Williams are requesting to see the surveillance video of the incident and are asking that an independent prosecutor be put on the case.
